Queens Academy / Philly Girls Play Chess

One of the disturbing trends in scholastic chess is the high level of attrition among young female players. Statistics show that the number of girls participating in organized chess programs dramatically decreases after 4th grade. With the Queens Academy / Philly Girls Play Chess initiative we seek to keep girls involved with the game of chess.

Joining me as regular instructors for the Queens Academy are the two strongest women chess players in the state of Pennsylvania, 2 time US Women’s Champion, Jennifer Shahade and WFM Alisa Melekhina.
